Into the city and straight to the harbour to catch the bus to the airport.
I'd said my 'see you laters' to BM, which I'm sure she's relieved by. No more babysitting duties for her.
For a while.
The domestic terminal was a breeze and the flight was over before I'd managed to get properly relaxed.
Landing in Wellington gave an amazing view over the city, and through the hills surrounding the bays. Again the good weather welcomed me, but I'm sure Windy Wellington will want to prove how she got the name at some point soon.
I was met at the airport, by another friend. I'd not seen Marc for close to 13 years, and we were going to have a lot to catch up on, but as usual we started off by giving each other abuse. Some things change, but the song remains the same.
After a quick fly by to drop my case off at Marc's place in Poiarua on the outskirts of Welly, we headed off for a quick recce of the area to get my bearings, coffee & a late lunch.
Driving up from the town towards Paraparaumu, through an area reminiscent of the big rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, Marc took a turn off of the main road, and introduced me to a stunning stretch of 'driving/riding' road that snaked up the side of the hills.
Climbing and twisting with a mammoth drop to one side, and incredible views out over the sea.
We stopped near the top at a viewing point, where I could take in the view over the area, from nearly one kilometre up.
I was in awe of the world that was spread out in front of me. With views as far as Wanganui, and Hawera. To top it all off, from the other side, you could make out the South Island and the peaks around Marlborough Sounds.
The South Island can wait for now. What we needed was food, and we found a bayside fish restaurant, and sat beers in hand, looking out over the the sea as the sun set.
After sating our appetites it was back to Marc's for honey bourbon, cigars and a hell of a lot of catching up.
