Friday 10/08/12 Sleepy afternoon in Devonport
Back at the harbour after my trip to Shed 5, I hopped on the ferry over to Devonport on the opposite side of the bay.
I'm told that Devonport holds great music, literature, wine and all sorts of arty festivals, but when I was there it was just a pretty, relaxed, sleepy bayside town, and no the worse for it.
I strolled along the beach, and up to the North Head, I had an ice cream for a small shop, I sat and watched the boats in the harbour.
I nearly took a Segway tour, but unfortunately(?) the office was closed as they were out on a tour already.
I meandered down the coast towards the Naval Docks, and sat again watching the clouds and light change the Auckland Skyline back over the bay.
I popped my iPod on, and listened to the Stereophonics - Maybe Tomorrow, and Jane's Addictions - Just Because, and for the first time in a long time, all felt right in the world.
I hopped onto the 16:45 ferry back to the city, sent BM a text to say I was heading to the Newmarket area of Auck to visit a bar, and that I'd grab a taxi back to the Fortress later.
BM said she'd be in town for a while after work anyway, so to call her when I was done, and she'd pick me up.
The generosity of family, friends and even strangers blows me away every day.
