How do you follow a day like yesterday?

Saturday 11/08/12

How do you follow a day like yesterday? Simple, by shifting a bed!
Headed off with BM to help her friend Pauline shift a bed, by that, I mean we had to pick up a roof rack from Pauline's mum, who happens to have the cutest Border Collie pup, all fluff and bounce!
It did make me miss my mum's Borders, but I'd imagine after a week or so of me staying at my mums, they're probably missing their well trained 'Ball Thrower' more!
We stopped and grabbed some coffee from Fuze again, and this time they didn't try and charge me $100 for them. It was just $50. I feel like a local.
We took the roof rack to Pauline and her dad, and with a bit of manhandling we got the mattress secured to the roof.
Back to Paulines, and her dad and I were employed as the movers. I was glad to be of use.
After this strenuous start to the day, and in appreciation of our efforts, Pauline treated us to breakfast back at Fuze.
I can honestly say I've not seen a breakfast menu like it. Sweet french toast with jam, cream & bacon.
Ciabatta with eggs & bacon. Eggs benedict on ciabatta with salmon. Marvellous! My arteries were hardening just reading the menu.
So one ciabatta with poached eggs, bacon and extra bacon later, I was fit to face the day. Or have a lie down for a while.
But BM had more plans for me that day, as I needed to buy a lighter weight waterproof jacket. My good ol' Dainese ski jacket is great when it's wet and cold, but I'd left my 'wet & mild' jacket back in the UK. Partly because I figured it's winter in NZ, so it'll be cold & wet, but mainly because Singapore Airlines would only allow 20kgs in economy. Considering my case and backpack, empty, weighed in at 7kgs, I was dumping stuff left right and centre. Apart from the bottle of Absolut London for BM. That had to stay, I know what's needed for survival and what's not, and trust me, that was needed.
We also figured that I'd be able to pick up a Moka or similar to feed my caffeine cravings, so we hit the shops.
After a few shops I finally found some outdoor gear on sale, which the sales girl went to great lengths to explain that that this brand is 'never' in a sale, and it's amazing that it is.
I didn't have the heart to tell her that I'd never heard of the brand, and could care less unless it was waterproof and lightweight, but the price was right, so loaded up we hunted for coffee accessories. Alas, this part of the shopping expo failed.
Looks like I'll be yomping back up that big hill to Parnell again, hope I get there before 3:30 next time!
Shopping over, it was back to the Fortress, and sorting bits before some more friends came over that evening.
I even managed to slice my thumb open cleaning the shower and bathroom, and it's my Uke playing thumb. I'm sure many people would find that fitting, after making them suffer my playing.
The evening was fun, and they were a great bunch.
I think.
I have to admit to having had a couple of Gentleman Jacks prior to anyone arriving, and a hell of a lot more afterwards, and the rest is a bit hazy.
Thankfully, no photos this time!
